Dr. Akhilesh Pandey, MD, PhD
Professor, John’s Hopkins University School of Medicine, USA
and Director, Institute of Bioinformatics, Bangalore.
Dr. Pandey obtained his MD (Pathology) from AFMC, Pune and PhD (Pathology) from the
University of Michigan, USA. He received postdoctoral training both from the University of
Michigan and MIT, USA (Pathology) and clinical residency training from Harvard medical
School. He has varied research interests including analysis of phosphorylation and signal

technologies to unravel molecular pathways in human health and disease. He collaborates
with NIMHANS in various “omics” projects in neuroscience.
Dr. Pandey visited the clinical neuroscience department on Dec 10, 2015 and
interacted with the PhD students of the department. He shared his academic experiences
during the doctoral and postdoctoral training and how they shaped him to be a highly
successful physician scientist and also explained his research work. He advised the students
about the difficulties/advantages regarding the exciting academic path chosen by them in
the field of neuroscience and how they are uniquely qualified to take up a research career in
neuroscience. The students found the informal interaction to be very helpful for their
respective careers.
