Welcome to PhD Clinical Neurosciences website.
PhD in Clinical Neurosciences is first of its kind course in the country. It was started in the year of 2006 at the prestigious National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. This is a 5 years medical scientist training program fully funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi under the Talent Search Scheme MD-PhD fellowship.
The prime aim of this course is to train the medical doctors in the field of medical research and to absorb them later in the scientific cadre of the country.
Each year, five MBBS graduates are selected through a highly competitive national entrance examination held in the month of June. These students are given freedom to decide the neuro-speciality they want to work, after completion of one year of Clinical rotations in the departments of Neurorology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Neuroradiaology, Neuroanaesthesia and child and adlescent psychiatry, at NIMHANS. Students get both the clinical and laboratory training in their respective fields of interests.
Since its inception, the progress in this course has been motivating and encouraging. The alumini have achieved academic excellence and are currently working in various scientific positions at prestigious institutes in India and abroad.
